The basic celestials are celestial creatures that have been around in the Dungeons and Dragons world for a long time. The point is that celestials are strong creatures with otherworldly powers. This could be bringing creatures back from the dead – in a way that a Cleric class could not – or destroying a country with a blast of light. They also generally have a strong ability that humanoid creatures couldn’t dream of having. Most celestials can fly, have resistances to necrotic damage/celestial damage, and can travel between planes freely. They may be influenced, corrupted, or go through a tragedy that transforms them. However, some may stray from this for one reason or another. They typically return to the Upper Plane when they complete the quest. Is shooting arrows really more effective than punching attacking it with a war hammer?Īnyway, ettecaps also have a poisonous bite and all the spider traits (web sense, web walking, spider climb). Oddly enough, the web is resistant against bludgeoning damage, but not against piercing damage. They only require a DC 11 STR check to be destroyed, though. In combat, ettercaps (CR 2) can throw webs that entangle people. Maybe it's all just a communication issue. Ettercaps have INT 7 but speak no language whatsoever. They always try to trap dryads and like to eat fairies because they are so tasty. Even though ettercaps have no civilisation, they don't care for the harmony of nature either because they are Neutral EVIL. Don't get me wrong, I like the illustration, but I want my ettercap to look more like this.Įttercaps herd spiders like shepherds herd sheep. Ettercaps are described as "humanoid spiders" here, even though the illustration makes them look more like alternative umber hulks. The ettercap is one of those monsters that feels very Forgotten Realms, even though it's not even a Realms monster but from the Fiend Folio. ![]()
